Do you have a goals or dreams ? Everyone has them, You are not fooling me . Have you ever tried to set goals and not get it accomplished? Do you have dreams that seem far reached?
The new year always symbolizes a fresh start for most. Eat healthy? Loose weight? Exercise more? Get a promotion? Sounds familiar? Most people start to think about goals or dreams around the holidays. Lets be real friends, How many of you will get frustrated and give up after 1 month? 2 months? I have been guilty of that for years. I always want to improve and have some good ideas but never follow through. I’m all fired up about it and have a plan then 2 weeks into it, I’m back to my original self. Sometimes the goals or resolutions are a lot of hard work and no immediate reward-like loosing weight. So much work and sacrifices, no instant gratification ugh.
When you put in the work and sacrifices, I believe you get a bigger reward as the end result. Lets say you are trying loose 100lbs. The end result of loosing that weight will be so rewarding and self fulfilling. But you have to be committed and dedicated to the goal. It’s not just about loosing weight, Its any goal that you want to achieve.
Let’s break it down to achieve your goals or dreams.
S.M.A.R.T
Specific-Be very specific in the goal. Being to general will mostly likely not get accomplished. (Answer who?, what?, why?, when?, where?, which?)
Measurable-measure your progress as you work toward the goal
Attainable-a goal most be truly meaningful to you. If its not deep in your soul then you will not do the work. When is a deep goal then you start to figure out ways to accomplish it or overcome hurdles
Realistic-Being realistic on the goal that you are able to and willing to work hard toward it
Timely-goal needs to have a time stamp on it. You have a sense of I need to get it down by this date.
Using The SMART acronym is a good way to start setting your goals and working toward your dreams. Look at the end picture and break it down into bite sizes pieces. Like loosing 100lbs in a year-break that down to loosing 9lbs per month. That monthly goal is a little bit easier to handle physically and mentally. It also help to have an accountability partner to stay focus and on track to reaching your goals or dreams.
